The X820 directional valve essentially consists of the longitudinal spool, the housing, and the corresponding actuating element.

The spool is shifted by solenoids, allowing pressurized oil to flow from port P to port A or B, and then connecting the alternative port to the tank (T). By switching off the actuator, the spring can move the spool back to the center. The manual override option allows the spool to be operated manually.
