Frequently Asked Questions

Selection, design and technical specifications

What is a hydraulic slip-in valve?

A hydraulic slip-in cartridge valve, also known as a 2/2-way valve or logic element, is installed directly into a cavity in a hydraulic manifold and retained by a control cover.

Depending on its design, it can perform directional, pressure, check or flow-control functions. Its compact construction enables high flow rates with a small installation footprint and low pressure losses.

What is the difference between slip-in valves and servo cartridge valves?

Conventional slip-in cartridge valves are primarily used for switching, shut-off, check and pressure-control functions. Servo cartridge valves additionally feature integrated valve electronics and closed-loop position control of the main-stage poppet or spool. This enables particularly precise and dynamic control of flow, speed, pressure or force.

2-way servo cartridge valves
use a seated poppet and can provide leakage-free shut-off in the closed position. 3-way servo cartridge valves use a spool design and can, for example, control the extension or retraction of a single-acting cylinder as well as perform pressure-or force-control functions.

Which valve series comply with ISO 7368?

The AXXERON Hydrolux product series explicitly designed in accordance with ISO 7368 include, among others:

  • CEE slip-in cartridge valves
  • CCE control covers
  • CHE actively operated cartridges
  • CSE and RSE position-monitored valves
  • DBV, DBM and DBE pressure-relief cartridge valves
  • X700 servo cartridge valves in sizes 32 to 100

The specific cavity depends on the nominal size and valve series. Not every product version is based entirely on ISO 7368. The compact CEE/AH version uses a plug-mounted design similar to ISO 7368, whereas the SE3 3-way servo cartridge series uses an AXXERON Hydrolux-specific cavity standard.

Which valves are suitable for safety-related applications?

For safety-related control functions, AXXERON Hydrolux offers the position-monitored CSE and RSE series.

An integrated electrical position switch monitors the closed valve position. This allows the valves to be used in safety-related parts of control systems. The valves are supplied with a DGUV Test type-examination certificate. Fail-safe versions are also available for the X700 series. Depending on the selected fail-safe function and the available hydraulic and electrical supply, the main-stage poppet can be moved to a defined open or closed position in specified fault conditions.

The appropriate valve version must always be selected as part of the complete machine safety concept. A certified valve component does not replace the safety assessment of the complete control system.

What operating pressures and flow rates are available?

Depending on the valve series, the AXXERON Hydrolux portfolio supports operating pressures of up to 420 bar and flow rates of up to 30,000 l/min. The highest flow values among the conventional slip-in cartridge valves are achieved by the CEE series.

The X700 servo cartridge series is designed for operating pressures of up to 420 bar and recommended
maximum flow rates of up to 25,500 l/min.

Further examples include:

The final valve selection depends on factors including valve size, cavity geometry, flow direction, pressure differential and the specific application.

The published values are not always directly comparable. For some series, the rated flow is specified at a defined pressure differential, whereas the X700 documentation also specifies a recommended maximum flow rate.

Which interfaces are available for the X700 series?

The X700 series can be equipped with analog or digital interfaces. Depending on the selected version, analog command and feedback signals are available as 0–10 V or 4–20 mA. CANopen and EtherCAT
are available for digital fieldbus communication.

Analog signals and a fieldbus interface can also be combined in the same valve. The integrated digital valve electronics additionally enable operating parameters to be monitored, configured and adapted to the requirements of the machine application.
